Banniere
Newport by Banniere
Original artwork by Emma Garfield by Banniere
Emma Garfield is a meticulous artist currently living in Newport, RI. Her inspiration for this design came from her background of spending all her life in sailing towns from Marblehead, to Cuttyhunk Island in Buzzards Bay and of course Newport. She first came to Newport as a student at St. Georges and returned to live there after University to establish herself as an artist. In this design, the flags are a staple of the nautical community and remind Emma not just of Newport, but of all the seaside towns that are close to her heart. The Claiborne Pell Newport bridge is a trademark structure and the Volvo Ocean Race sailboats below it are a nod to the historic sailing town's honored role in the internationally renowned race.

I decided to start Banniere after traveling the world and falling in love with the unique and varying styles and cultures in different towns and cities. I had a background working in Fashion for other companies such as Stubbs and Wootton and wanted to start something on my own that combined my love of travel, art and fashion. Through Banniere, I was able to work with these local artists and come up with designs that emanate these different cultures and turn them into wearable art: a silk scarf.
